Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented Business Development Lead with strong industry awareness and a proactive, client-facing mindset. This role blends relationship building, sales execution, and market expansion. In this role, you will be expected to run the end-to-end sales process from outreach to deal close. You will help set and expand our footprint in the EU/UK region by identifying new business opportunities, engaging prospective clients, representing ClearBlue at industry events and collaborating with internal teams to shape our offerings.
It is ideal for someone with BD experience in industrial, commodity/financial or energy-intensive sectors who is passionate about carbon markets, decarbonization and building long-term commercial relationships. ClearBlue’s Market Intelligence subscription offering is the foundation for our larger advisory offering aimed to help optimize emitters position in the carbon markets.
Key Responsibilities
Market Strategy & Sales Execution
- Lead Generation & Prospecting: Identify, target, and qualify new opportunities with regulated emitters, corporations, banks, investors, and project developers with exposure or interest in the carbon markets, specifically EU ETS, UK ETS, and APAC markets.
- Pipeline Management: Maintain a sales pipeline in the CRM system; recording new leads, managing the deal through the full deal lifecycle, conducting closed-won and closed-lost analysis, and supporting the finance team with accurate forecasting on a quarterly and annual basis.
- Carbon Markets Expertise: During conversations with potential clients be able to credentialize ClearBlue’s expertise and knowledge, leveraging internal experts and market analysts to clearly articulate how ClearBlue’s services can provide value to their position in the carbon markets.
- Deal Negotiation: Structure, negotiate, and close subscription agreements.
- Growth Strategy Development: Collaborate with leadership to identify emerging market trends and geographic expansion opportunities, developing tailored go-to-market strategies to penetrate new industry verticals.
- Conferences/Events: Represent ClearBlue Markets at industry events, workshops, and panels.
Relationship Management & Commercial Strategy
- Run end-to-end sales process from outreach to deal close following and iterating based on the current sales process established in North America.
- Stay abreast of evolving international, national and sub-national carbon market policies, pricing trends and new project development methodologies.
- Support the design and execution of go-to-market strategies for new products or market segments.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to ensure satisfaction and identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling.
- Pursue, secure and process annual subscription renewals for our European clients.
Strategic Input & Internal Collaboration
- Provide frontline insights that help refine our product offering.
- Collaborate with the North American Business Development Lead, as well as the Market Access, Advisory and Product teams to help align enterprise level sales strategies and cross-functional client needs.
- Contribute to shaping ClearBlue’s commercial approach and value proposition in a developing market landscape.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 7-10 years of experience in business development, commercial or client-facing roles in sectors such as energy, chemicals, metals, mining, industrials, or related fields.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for meeting clients in person, attending conferences, and representing a company externally.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to speak credibly to technical and commercial audiences.
- A proactive, self-driven approach suited to a growth-stage company where responsibilities evolve as the business scales.
- Exposure to carbon markets, decarbonization, emissions trading, sustainability, or climate-related themes.
Nice to Have
- Experience with carbon markets, EU/UK ETS, or industrial decarbonization projects.
- Experience in early-stage commercial environments, growth-stage startups or strategy consulting.
- Familiarity with subscription and/or enterprise sales cycles.
